We can offer the following services:

• Building new Russell Newbery® engines
• Reconditioning and remanufacturing of existing RN engines, including derivatives such as the those made by the National Engine Company
• A comprehensive spares service and maintenance back up for the ‘RD1’, ‘D’, ‘E’, and ‘F’ type engines.
• Supply of auxiliary equipment, such as alternators and instruments.

We are probably one of the most environment friendly engine makes. With the correct care and attention, RN engines last for years. We have undertaken reconditioning of engines first built in the 1930s. Engines we build today will last for a similar amount of time. So by choosing an RN engine, you will benefit the environment by reducing the need for a further engine manufacture.

Besides producing new engines and spare parts, we are pleased to offer a specialiast engineering sub-contrating facility. Our experienced designers and machine operators are able to undertake small to medium size sub-contract work for UK based manufacturers. The RN Diesel Engine Company Ltd are proud to continue a fine line of British engineering excellence. Up to the 1960s, Russell Newbery engines were exported all over the world. Some of these are still in use today. We continue with the tradition of the company - most of the engine components are made to Imperial dimensions (inches, feet, ...), and the nuts and bolts are Whitworth threads. We can provide a set of Whitworth spanners for your day to day needs.
Into the second century for Russell Newbery In 1909 having served their apprenticeship with Royce Engineering in Manchester, Frederick Russell and William Newbery setup their own business, the Russell Newbery Company. They established a works at Altrincham, then a small provincial Cheshire town. So this year, 2010, is the first of the second centenary of the Russell Newbery brand and production of top quality engines. The RN Story pages on the Register's web site contains a brief history of the early years of the company.

The company is a corporate member of The Inland Waterways Association.

The company had close ties with but is legally separate from the Russell Newbery Register.

Manufacturing premises

In May 2005 we established our manufacturing and spares centre at the Royal Oak Works in Daventry. The Russell Newbery Register's Property Project provided the investment to establish this base. Since then, we have supplied a number of new engines. So now Russell Newbery engines have been built in four locations: Altrincham, Dagenham, Upminster and Daventry.

The Company Name

Although colloquially refered to as “Russell Newbery” or “RN”, the official name of the company today is the RN Diesel Engine Co. Ltd. Refer to the RN story on the Russell Newbery Register web site for the explaination.

You will often find incorrect spelling in references, particular on the World Wide Web. So watch out for
Russel or Rusell instead of the correct Russell
and
Newberry or Newbury instead of the correct Newbery.
